Outside Steve's dwelling

Inside Steve's Dwelling

(See also the Events page to find out where Steve will be this summer.)

As well as plenty of permaculture teaching, remaining active in the development of the unique Ecoforest eco-community (see www.ecoforest.org), and doing as much as he can to support the organic development and growth of the UK and Spanish permaculture teaching movements and the ecological raw food living and eco-community movements (see www.rawcommunities.com), Steve is currently working on a number of books and projects. These include the long awaited completion of The Earth Dwellers Guide to Sustainability; an exciting and highly entertaining novel-cum-project called Sufficient Freedom, which is directly linked to a new project called Culture of Change : Change of Culture; as well as the gradual completion of a book with a working title of A Call From The Hart which is the result of Steve's time spent with the wise elder and gentleman of permaculture and simple, sustainable vegan organic lifestyles, Robert Hart in 1999, the year before Robert died at the age of 87 … Robert as yet has generally not been recognised as the social and ecological Gandhi styled revolutionary that he truly was. (By the way, Steve's mother's maiden name is Hart, and the name Hart is also contained in the name Charter … Steve's family / father's name … interesting coincidence eh?).

In addition, Steve continues his intermittent work as an expert in sustainable housing and sustainable construction strategies, projects, guides, training and so on in England with The Somerset Trust for Sustainable Development (STSD), which he helped to found (see www.sustainablehousing.org.uk) and works from time to time with his brother, Professor Martin Charter, on work associated with sustainable product design (see www.cfsd.org.uk). Steve has written guides to sustainable construction for Schools and Education Buildings, for Community Buildings and Village Halls, a guide to Planning for Sustainable Design and Construction which can be obtained from STSD, and also been a significant contributor the ground breaking first report of the Sustainable Housing Forum (see www.tcpa.org.uk) on planning for sustainable housing, linked with WWF's One Million Sustainable Homes campaign (www.wwf.org).

As well of being one of the three Ecoforest Trustees, Steve is a trustee of the inspiring Forest Inspirations forest schools project and charitable organisation in Devon, England (see www.forestinspirations.org.uk) - recommended for anyone interested in home schooling and / or schools related ecological education for children of all ages.

Steve's latest project is helping to put together a magazine, The Funky Raw Magazine, a radical earth based spiritual magazine, dedicated to restoring connection and re-creating paradise on earth.
